I need to buy a freestanding gas cooker and with one that I like some websites state it should have a minimum distance of 750mm.The cooker is 55cm wide and the space is just under 60cm. I am not sure of the importance of the space/sizing and wonder is anyone can enlighten me and whether it would be a safe buy or not. thanks

    Hi

the required distance from the highest burner is to a flamable surface is 760mm.

I.E. If you have an eye level grill then you must have 760mm above the top of the grill.

ok but I thought they were referring to distance along the sides. It says

‘The minimum distance required to fit into the desired space’. Really it makes no sense to me as many freestanding gas cookers are ‘slotted in’. 😕

    Hi
Please note also you will need a Corgi engineer to install any gas cooker you may purchase and if you have a local one, he may be able to offer you more advice prior to purchase.

Slotted in refers to an appliance that fits between two worktops.
However, a gas cooker having naked flame hob burners will need a minimum distance from the sides of the worktop to the chassis of the cooker so as not to cause a fire risk.
