ParticipantJust had a customer on the phone asking me to repair the door hinge on her Hotpoint WM71.She tells me it`s insured through D&G but the first available appointment they could offer her was 21st. Feb. a full 2 weeks away 8O.
Seems a ridiculously long timescale and just wondered if she would have any chance of asking them for authorisation to send my receipt to them in order to reclaim the expense.
I did stress to her that I`d need paying on completion but I think she has a pretty good case that 2 weeks seems a long time for an appointment.
Don`t deal with any insurance or work provider myself but I guess they must have a degree of flexibility in these cases.Grateful for any info. on this subject.

As far as I’m aware, (I could be wrong… so please dont quote me 😉 ), If the customer complains to D&G, they will authorise the cust to use a local repairer and issue a refferral number that should be quoted when invoicing.
I only know this because we had a customer that we were dealing with, because she had to wait 10-14 days for an out of stock part, she complained to D&G and hey presto…… when we went to contact her to arrange the fit part visit, she told me it was already done 😕 😕 😕 ……. by a local guy who just happened to have the part in stock and D&G had authorised this 👿 .
Maybe worth asking.

As a matter of interest washdoc , did you still get paid by D&G for the initial call ❓
Hope you appreciate this is a totally different situation as I wouldn`t even consider cutting in to someone elses work because they were waiting for parts and I had them in stock.

It’s not D&G that are busy Bryan, it’s the agent that will be.
Depends on the product, depends on the agent just how far away a service call is and also depends on whether there’s a second tier in place in the area as well.
I do work for DAG and, to be fair, I’ve not had any jobs that I can recall being re-allocated due to a stock issue. I’ve had machines BER’d because of it mind you, three this past month or so, but that could just be down to the usual OOS stuff over the holiday period or the usual, “no we don’t know when those parts will be in the UK”.
More worrying is the trend towards BER because of ludicrous parts prices, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

Yes that`s what I meant :). I guess they are under covered in this area as I regularly put mailshots from them and GB DAR in the bin.

It seems to be the other way with DAG at the moment. With the loss of whirlpool, hotpoint, smeg brands we just seem to be getting only a handfull of jobs (all shite brands) from them each day instead of around 15-20.
not looking good for us at the moment! any ideas chaps?February 9, 2007 at 3:07 pm #203573kwatt

Not really any immediate solutions Pinky. But…
I have, the past few days, been working on a more definitive list of repairers for the purposes of networks by manufacturers etc. as in the past three months or so I’ve been approached several times by some looking for the information. Primarily this list is populated with the people that we know something about, specifically that means the people on repairs@ and the ISE agents as we have info.
I’ve got a lot more names etc. but little information on the companies, skillsets, cover etc. that I can’t use as the information isn’t complete enough. If I were to do that I’d be as well to send them the raw data from Yellow Pages which is next to useless.
The short of that is, if you want contract work sign up for repairs@ as manufacturers use it to look for agents and I forward that info (if applicable) to networks looking for agents and, as Alex is oh so fond of reminding me, if you’re not in it, you can’t win it.

Hi Bib,
The calls you get from repairs@ depends very much on area, skillset, how many people are in the area as well as brands covered. London fares very well as does the majority of the home counties, if you’re in that part of the world and, especially if there’s no-one around you, you can get a fair bit of work.
With the network stuff it’s a lottery at times TBH whether you get the call first or someone else does, but most manufacturers etc. will “interview” a few candidates and often choose a backup as well as a main agent these days. But, if you’re name’s not there then you’ve no chance. 😉

k, we’ve been recieving repairs@ from the beginning thanks. The thing with d&g is that we’ve been 5 star agents with them for 4 years but that does not seem to matter when the manufactuers get back involved, we end up get royally f**ked because of it.
we might go into selling fish food instead, you get no complaints or bogus insurance claims -
