ParticipantVia a certain WP, we went to a range cooker on 21st Jan to replace the RH oven door seal. Seal replaced OK, range checked over, all OK.
Got a RECALL for a FOC revisit under warranty today because the door handle on the LH grill door had come adrift.
With WP’s, this could be a bottomless pit….
Week1- Oven door seal
Week 4 Recall ‘cos the grill door handles come loose
Week 7 Recall ‘cos an elements gone ( Possibly…)
Week 10 Recall cos a burners not lighting. ( Possibly….). And so on.Interested to hear of anyone elses WP problems with unreasonable recalls
Regards

Yes, going through the same with a WP. Dishwasher base flooded, 6 weeks later on/ off switch Breaks (ie come apart) labour rejected as re-call). Circ pump has since failed too and I have declined the job as I know we are not going to get paid.

Fact of life I’m afraid. Some of them expect us to guarantee the whole appliance, parts as well for up to 3 months. That is worst case though, and I would not work for any company that try that one on me. Most companies expect us to honour the labour for the 1st 30 days, some are 60 days, some are 90 days.
Any parts fitted on insurance have to be guaranteed for 12 Months, and that will include the labour. All very well, but you make very little on the bit, and they enjoy a discounted labour rate.
No wonder I shall never afford to retire.

We warn work providers that we don’t cover a recall unless its exactly the same fault or we wont go out.
We make sure we get another job number before we attend the appliance, it is unfair practice for you to cover another fault on the same appliance whether you were there a week ago or 3 months ago.

My experience is that most insurance companies don’t have any technical expertise in their call centres so they will automatically treat all calls within a defined period (refer to individual contract) as a recall.
However, the claims/authorisation team should be prepared to accept a technical explanation as to why it is NOT a recall.
Whether the claims/authorisation teams have any one relevantly technical is another matter! 😉February 13, 2007 at 1:53 pm #204100eastlmark

Wouldnt mind if they were buying quality stuff. When its badged up Chinese junk they need to change the terms of any contract accordingly. Otherwise we are subsidising their buying policy.

I actually refuse to accept a recall on any of those products Mark and so far everyone has been okay with it. Sometimes we have to fight the odd rejection as a supposed “double call” but for the most part it’s okay. However I did tell everyone, in writing, in advance, that I was not prepared to underwrite any warranty whatsoever on these products.
No problem fixing them and if people want to keep paying me to do that then that’s fine but I’m not prepared to underwrite poor quality products.
