ParticipantHi
I need some advice, I have a 10year old AEG 4040 that was working fine until yeserday. Now it just continues to pump out, even when switched off at the front of the machine, have to switch off at the wall to stop it. Nothing else works, I guess it thinks it has water in it but there is none.
Any advice appreciated
ThanksFebruary 15, 2007 at 9:02 pm #204470Kentish

Sounds like the float switch has tripped in the base due to it (the base) being full of water. At 10 years I would imagine a leaking wash motor or drain pump, but probably wash motor. If it is, then it’s very expensive and probably uneconomical.
However if you decide to start looking yourself, unplug first as death is permanent.

Tray under machine has flooded and activated the floatswitch. This will run until you drain the undertray. Then you must find the leak………
Power off before stickig fingers in.

ParticipantThanks for your advice guys. I am sure it’s correct because I tipped the machine at an angle (sideways) and it then started to work. But I also noticed water on the floor afterwrds, I guess it came from the undertray. Anyway it’s working now but for how long ?
Thanks Again
ps. is a AEG F80860 a good machine ?February 15, 2007 at 9:33 pm #204473helo_75

No, no Helo, this one is a proper AEG – well worth spending a bit of time on. Weak spot is the fill matrix on the left hand side of the machine sludging up – remove lid and side panels to observe.
Power off, before touching anything.

But the modern AEG’s tend to be Zanussi’s by another name.
My mother had three Zanussi’s, each one was flimsier than its predecessor. 🙁
Really, the better machines come from Bosch/Siemens/Neff, and Miele. You can literally feel the quality:
More substantial metal linings.
Cabinets that do not lurch alarmingly when the door is opened/closed. Better coating on the baskets.
Baskets that glide in and out without jamming.
Spray arms that don’t wobble when rotating.
Far superior heat insulation, and noise insulation.Altogether better machines. 😉

This is an interesting machine – it is a Zanussi base, but being an early one, it’s been “AEG’ed”, so was remanufactured up to their standards. It’s definitely worth taking the covers off and having a good look at what’s going on. Don’t touch anything before unplugging it though……….

ParticipantUpdate on my AEG
I took the side panels off today & dried out the water in the bottom tray. Then ran a test cycle to check for the leak, no leaks ! it stayed bone dry. The salt in the container was solid, which I have now freed & the water that was in the bottom tray was slimy (old water) but nothing else to see. Guess it must be a very slow leak.
Thanks for the help.April 12, 2007 at 2:34 pm #204478Sidders

Hi
Had exactly the same problem…looked on t’internet, came accross this discussion and have followed the instructions and hey presto…working dishwasher again! 😀
Ran a cycle without the side panel and can’t see a leak though the water out pipe looks a bit scaly so that may be the cause. However, no drips on the cycle just run.
thanks very much…saved me a good few quid not having to get someone to look at it.
cheers!

I have the exact same problem with an AEG OKO_FAVORIT 446, so I’m extremely pleased I came here to hunt for a likely culprit, before crucifying my wallet. I dried out the tray and all seems OK, with no obvious leak.

ParticipantIgnore the leak at your peril!
First unplug!
If the leak contains “detergent” and if this wets the windings of the main pump-motor, it will eat away at both the insulation AND the copper itself!
cure the leak, check/clean any contamination off, dry thoroughly, before recommissioning.
the cost of a new motor is likely to render the machine scrap.the voice of experience speaks!

ParticipantYesterday my AEG OKO Favorite 4040, pump started to run continuously. Reading through the posts I have taken the advice and drained the undertray. At this moment the machine is running through a cycle and fingers crossed, it’s going to be okay. I know that white goods are not meant to last forever. We got this machine second hand in 1998 and 23 years later this is its first major problem. I had to replace the cutlery basket about two years ago. They don’t build them like this anymore. Cycle finished, All good. Cheers. Happy ’22’.
