Hi all,
Some help please, Our machine is about 2 years old, being a replacement for the last machine that whirlpool gave up trying to repair after numerous faults. so we are now on our own with this one.
Whirlpool awm6120/3 s/n: 41 0330 021607
After starting the machine, it starts to set its self to run and then after about 10 seconds the door open light flashes and that’s as far as it goes. we did leave it switched off for a while and it then ran again for about 30 mins, but now it wont go at all, even after leaving it. I was thinking it might be the door switch??
My wife also said that it was making a “funny” noise this last week though which has made me wonder if its connected to this or something else and just coincidence. She described the noise as being like listening to a Sparkler (firework)??Thank you in advance for any suggestions or ideas….

Ah, the gentle crackling of carbon brushes wearing away… Self test will have detected the drive motor out of circuit and refused to allow the programme to start.
Power off if you plan to investigate.

Thank you for the information Penguin45, I hope that this is then going to be just a case of changing the brushes, may I ask…will it be self evident that they are worn? Or I guess it would be just worth changing them and hope that it solves the problem.

If the carbons are worn to a few millimetres, they are finished and need replacing. Good background info here:
