    Hi,

The lower (main) oven in my Neff U1524 stopped working yesterday.

Both oven lights went out, and I can no longer select a main oven function, and the main oven temperature display shows (I assume!) an error code “-5-“.

Does anyone know what this means?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    This is not a fault.
    It is indeed a “S” not a “5”.
“S” for “safe” is a child lock.
To operate the lock (on + off) you have to turn the selector switch from the 12 o’clock to 1 o’clock and back again several times quickly.
    I think it’s 3 or 5 times IIRC.

    BSH-Man you are a hero!!

Many thanks for that. I had been through the manual looking for fault/status codes and completely missed the oven lock! Doh!

I have now found it on page 19, and can confirm that to cancel the lock, you switch 3x from 0 position to the oven light position.

The irony is that the “fault” occurred while my “child” (he is 18!) was taking out a pizza, so goodness knows what he did to it (but it obviously involved the same sequence to lock the oven as to cancel the lock!).

    Thanks again!!

Its surprising the number of times a ‘child-lock’ can catch out an Adult…..and , i must admit , engineers 😳

I quite agree! Especially when one never realised there was a ‘child-lock’!

A case of RTFM! Never mind!
