ParticipantIt sounds as if the bearing might be the problem and I would very much appreciate some indication as to how easy/difficult it is to fit a new bearing to this brilliant machine. It is about 5 years old and used twice a week.
Could it be a DIY job or would I need special pullers etc.
Thanks

You will need bearing kit BR05100, which spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply for you.
Basically the cross piece on the back of the drum needs to be removed. Tools required are a set of sockets, a large (preferably copper faced) hammer and a substantial “drift” or steel bar. Not a subtle job, but a deal of patience is required.
Power off, of course.

Thanks for the reply,, is there anywhere I can get any drawings or sketches/instructions on how to tackle this job. I have done one before some years ago but I seem to remember I had to knock up a puller, and of course I was a lot younger then 😆 .
Is it a case of carefully thumping it out using the drift, and whats the significants in using a copper faced hammer??

We can’t walk you through it blow by blow, I’m afraid. Have a look at the back of the drum – that big casting has to come off. The copper faced hammer will allow you to give the shaft a solid thump as you pull the casting off, without it distorting. Assuming that the bearings and seals pull off in the housing, there should be no need for special pullers.
Do check the condition of the shaft carefully – clean it thoroughly and look for gouges, grooves etc. If it is damaged, the job gets very expensive and extremely complicated.
This is good potboiler on what’s involved:

That info was really useful thanks,
The part number you have suggested is slightly different to the part number emailed back to me from your spares web site enquiry which I made before posting my question on the forum.
The number quoted was BR05101,,, the number quoted on the forum was BR05100.February 21, 2007 at 12:17 am #204984Penguin45

Mr Conway is the expert……… If he says it’s BR5101, I’d believe him. Besides, he’s bigger than me. 😀

hello again Penguin45.
I have received the replacement bearing kit for my Blomberg 1501 thanks to Dave, excellent service.
My wife is giving me stick so I need to get started before I start could you just clarify for me please, after I take off the spider and hopefully pull out the bearing, will the rubber seal and large bearing be visible and will I be able to get to them off to change them or will I have to take out the drum somehow..
I did go to the web site you gave me for further advise but although it was useful it didn’t really make it too clear about the Blomberg.

I have started the job,, at least I have taken the back off,, now is the bolt that secures the spider left hand or right hand thread,,, do I undo it by turning it left or right.

All bolts on that machine are right hand thread, so anti-clock to undo.
Seal and large bearing are at the machine end of the housing, all pretty obvious once it’s off.

Hello my friend.
Bolt out,, Spider off, I have used a stout drift to clout the centre shaft,, it has gone in about half the width of the bearing but then seems solid.Do I keep carefully strikng the shaft to get it further in?/
There is a very heavy cast frame around the bearing which is fastened by about 8 bolts do I need to take that off.

😆 Casting off,, is there any easy way of getting the old seal out or can I just cut it to get it out. Now it seems like it is the big bearing thats noisy , the small one seems ok but I suppose it would be sensible to change both,,is it ok for me to clout the small bearing and the big one to get them out. The shaft looks ok, but should I clean it and lubricate it..
This going much better than I expected,, I’m gonna buy you blokes a drink if this washer works again 😮
Should I put any grease or lubricant on the shaft when I put the new bearings in/

Use your drift to drive the back bearing out from the front. Then drive the front bearing out from the back, the seal will push out with it.
Don’t grease the shaft, apply it to the running surfaces of the seal. Handle with care by the way – it is the critical component.

The only thing I have to do now is to get up bright and early connect it back up and try it, and hope to goodness there are no leaks.
God I hope its ok,,, I couldn’t have done it without your help, you have been fantastic.
I’ve even hoovered up all the dog hairs underneath, my wife sends her thanks, you never know I might get a promise tonight 😆 😆 😆
