ParticipantHi can anybody with this one had a call today to look at a hotpoint twin tub washer . The customer told me that the spinner wont pick up speed . It just runs uneven after taking the back cover and run testing the spinner it seems the rubber mountings under the spinner tub seem to have gone weak. Any help with part No s please ❓ or any other ideas

you cpuld try taking clutch shoes of and putting some hacksaw cuts on them…like you would do with break shoes.
they are at the bottom of the spin unit..
this will help it spin better…

I have never, ever changed the spin mountings on this machine because they felt ‘weak’ . Unless they are completely adrift which is easy to see from underneath then there is nothing wrong with them. You can easily tell by pushing the spin can from side to side from the top. If any mounting has failed then it will be obvious, the can will push easily into the side of the outer drum. They do not weaken but the rubber can come adrift of the mounting bolts at either end.
If the bearings are in good order and the drum shaft is clean then it could be due to a badly worn clutch. If you cannot get new clutch shoes then you can take the shoes from a 151201 top loader clutch assy and use those.
If the clutch shoes have worn to a point at the end then they are shot.

One other thing you could check, has she got an artical of clothing wraped around the spin can spindle.

agree with above never had to replace mounts the reason for the out of balanc action is down to two possible causes
1 the drum is not accellerating fast enough to pass this vibration point can be stiff bearings or clutch shoes
2 bent shaft causing drum to hit sides
have had both faults over the years

I think I still have one of these hidden away in the garage, have changed a few over the years, all snapped off.
If you do need one and have problems getting one, let me know and I will see if I can dig it out.

HI THANKS FOR THAT INFO the rubber mountings seem to be ok so it must be the clutch shoes .

Check the condition of the spin shaft & bearings first. If you close the lid, tip the machine onto its left side ( from front) using the white filter tray as a wedge to prevent the small amount of water running out, you should be able to spin the large round casting at the bottom very easily. If you can’t then you need to check the condition of the shaft, also check that the brake band is not binding on the clutch/brake drum.

You haven’t work on enough of them then, 😉 The ones that used to really wear away in no time were plastic, I have seen many sets of twin tub clutch shoes, even the asbestos/fibre ones worn right down to a point at the toe end.
