ParticipantThis dryer would start at 2hours 20 on the cottons cupboard dry program (the one we use the most) then about 10 minutes later the display would show about 20 minutes remaining, the heater wasn’t working and the dryer would stop soon afterwards with the laundry still damp.
As it was just out of warranty, we paid for an engineer to take a look. He replaced the control module and the heater, which incorporates three thermostats.
I am a brown goods engineer, so what he did seemed reasonable. He also hooked a laptop to it but I could not see what he was doing exactly. He left confident that the machine was now ok.
Guess what? It wasn’t.
The next load was almost the same, the difference now being that the fault code F15 flashed up on the display. Otherwise, the dryer was performing as poorly as before.
Another engineer visited, hooked up the laptop then left 5 minutes later without saying a word. The dryer still didn’t work.
Disappointed with this service, we cancelled the service agreement and I’ve now decided to have a look myself. I have nothing to lose.
Before I do though, I would appreciate any pointers this forum may be able to help with.
Personally, I suspect a problem with the ECO sensor. Any ideas? Thanks,

I would think that if you actually paid them for this repair then they should come back and fix it. I assume they sold you the contract at the time of the repair to reduce the £90.00 labour charge.
Not sure what you mean by ‘ECO sensor’
F15 fault is supposed to signify Dynamic (PD) heater relay with contact NA/NC welded closed. effectively a faulty PCB. There can be other causes such as poor contacts etc.
I would have just kept on at them until they fixed it, annoying, frustrating and time consuming I know, but possibly less expensive in the long run.
Jim.
Edited to test the filters 😉February 22, 2007 at 5:27 pm #205152Needy

The ECO sensor is what Hotpoint refers to as the part which senses when the clothes are dry and shuts off the machine to conserve power.I suggested the same about repeatedly calling the engineer out but the wife was too angry to agree. She already had two weeks worth of wet washing. We bought another dryer as a temporary measure. She was adamant about not having another Hotpoint so we bought an Indesit! 😉 (I won’t tell her!)
From what you’ve said, it is quite possible that when the first engineer replaced the control module he may had inadvertantly fitted a faulty one.
F15 hadn’t previously been displayed.
Thank you for your help so far and any more comments or ideas are more than welcome.Regards,

It is possible that in fitting the new module the contacts or the wiring may have been damaged, the little extra I sent may help you check that 😉
Ever heard the phrase, out of the frying pan, into the fire, 😆
As for the ECO sensor, it should normally shut of the heater once the clothes are dry, it may function as you say when using a timed programme as opposed to an auto dry setting which should end the programme once the cool down period has elapsed after it has sensed the clothes are dry.Jim.

Actually, I think you’re right. It probably does shut off just the heater, now I think about it more.
With your advice I’ve been able to check the problem in more detail and found the control module was a faulty one. Thankfully I was able to fix that.
Thanks for all your help.
