ParticipantCan anyone help! I’ve just inherited the above mentioned washing machine, after buying and fitting a new hinge on it. It’s off my dad, so I believe him when he says he didn’t have the issue I’m about to describe (though I think he uses a dosing ball, so how he know, I dunno!).
Anyway, the machine seems to work fine…..except, it doesn’t take the detergent!
It’s hooked up using a cold fill adapter, but I have also tried plumbing it to the hot and cold supplies (by using my dishwasher feed). I’ve tried swapping the pipes etc, incase one was damaged…
I’m at a loss……
Anyone???? 🙁
Thanks.

Hot water feed into r/h compartment, cold water into l/h. No water there is either a supply problem or a duff hot valve.
Power off if having a look.

Thanks for the speedy resonse Penguin45! 🙂
3 questions:
– Is the faulty hot valve quick easy to dignose (i.e. can I do it);
– If we contiue to use the washing machine, using a dosing ball instead of sticking the powder into the drawer, will this do any long term damage / have any adverse effects?
– If it is ok to continue as mentioned above, is there any point leaving the hot pipe attached (the cold feed splitter thing leaks a little, so if it ain’t getting used, could remove it?).Thanks again for your help.
Best regards,
Wayne.

1/ If you’ve got a test meter, you should get approx. 3.5kOhms across the solenoid, when split from the circuit. If you haven’t got a meter, check that you do actually have water at the valve. If you do, the valve most likely needs to be replaced.
P/no 161387, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly.
2/ No.
3/ 90c and 60c programmes are hot fill only, so nothing will happen.Power off, if investigating.

Thanks Penguin45,
I will order that bit ‘cos it’s only about £15.
Testing it with the tester is far to advanced for my skills, I prob make it worse! I am sure that there is water getting to the valve, so I’ll gamble on the £15 part being a solution – knowing that I can happily do 40 degree washes as described in our previous exchange in the meantime….
I’ll let you know how I get on….
Thanks again.
All the best,
Wayne

Hmmm, the plot thickens (I think)…
When washing, the drum only seems to be 1/3 full of water…. is this correct? Or is it be beind stupid….

Wash level (empty) should be approximately at the bottom if the door gasket. Using the “deep wash” option will add about 1.5″ to the depth. The old days of filling to nearly half way are long gone.

Thaks for all the advice!
I got the part through your shop, fitted it myself (power off! 😀 ) and the washing mach works fine now!
The only problem I have now is with the cold feed splitter…
When the feed pipes are attached directly to the wain metal water pipes they are fine, but when I attach them to the plasitc splitter, they always leak!
Am I doing something wrong? Is the splitter buggered? Should I buy a more expensive on (it was about £2 for a hardware store…)

About the right price for cheap and nasty plastic, but then most of these ‘y’ pieces are!
You could try another washer in the hose ends….us independants usually have stacks of them, often a bit chunkier than the one supplied 😉 -
