ParticipantHi,
I’ve used this forum once or twice in the past to glean some assistance but have now had the necessity to register.
I have a Hotpoint TC71P Ultima Condensor Dryer that has worked fault free for numerouse years. Yesterday it was working (almost) correctly but was not heating up and thus the clothes were still wet after 80 minutes!
I’ve seen a few topics on here about the thermostats on the back and this is where my problem lies. In the other topics the thermostats are mentioned as having a green dot on them, but one of mine has a red dot on it. The details are below (when still affixed to the rear of the unit):
LH thermostat: Part no Type261/PB, 16(3)/250~T175K
RH thermostat: Part no Type261/P, 16(3)/250~T175K
There are some numbers on the side of both of them but are illegible.
Following a brief test that someone else performed (by shorting the two wires across the thermostat) there ws no difference, so could the heater element have gone also?
Advice and assistance would be greatly received as I’m being overrun by baby clothes at an alarming rate!!! Thank you.

The stat kit for your machine is a 1701557, available from the shop.
It is not advisable or sensible to live test the machine. You should use the correct test equipment to check the stats for continuity. Keep your fingers crossed that the element is OK. The element for your model is over £50 + vat. Again that needs to be tested with a multimeter or similar.
if you do change the stats, handle the red spot one with care, do not press on the base.Jim.
