ParticipantUnless you live in a cave I’m sure you’ve twigged that today’s the day the use of mobile phones whilst driving will incur a £60 fine and 3 penalty points. Also in the event of a serious accident involving prosecution, those firms phoning their staff will also face prosecution! 😯
In recent years after upgrading my mobile a couple of times I have used a Bluetooth earpiece instead of a fully fitted handsfree car kit (very expensive option) and that has its drawbacks. Those earpieces are not very comfortable, not very durable, fiddly to use and the battery goes flat just as you set out on a long journey!
So I figured, being as the radio (Blaupunkt) in my van was rubbish anyway, I would go out and buy a Bluetooth compatible radio?

How wonderful to find this piece of kit is the perfect solution and gives me totally hands free mobile phone capability. I can hurtle the highways & byways listing to the radio, CD or my favorite iPod music (oh yes it has an iPod plug-in). When the phone rings the radio/CD/iPod fades and the callers phone number comes up on the radio display. 2 option buttons allow you to either accept or reject the call. Press the button and chat away!
It stores up to 9 telephone numbers (last used) in its memory, so dialling out is just a one button exercise too, very easy to use. Once the call is ended your CD or iPod track resumes where it left off, cool! 8)
Oh and the front panel lifts off and you can pop it in your pocket to deter those thieving little baskets!!!!
Handsfree for me……….. 😀

It sounds like a good replacement for an in-car hands free installation, but it lacks the flexibility of a mobile and bluetooth headset. Some engineers take the phone into the house during a repair call, others do not.
I like to be able to take calls from potential customers at any time.
BTW it’s worth noting that if you answer a mobile call while the engine is still switched on, then you are still breaking the law.

On the contrary, my phone stays in my pocket at all times, I never need to touch it. Once in the vehicle the radio comes on and the phone automatically connects with the radio. In the customers house I can (and often do sometimes ) use my Bloothtooth headset (‘cos the phone always rings at the most inconvenient times as you know 😉 )

i have just got a clever little toy (bluetooth) that fits to your sun viser with a speaker and a micophone instead of an ear piece and got to say it is really good it also has 2 buttons last call etc it was £50 from the carphone warehouse its cheaper then a £60 fine and 3 points 😆

Some sat nav devices allow you to use your phone hands free via bluetooth. I think one Garmin model certainly does.

Martin,
have you had any conflict between your radio and your headset. I mean, if you leave the car, does your headset work automatically or do you have to re-configure it and conversely, when you get back to the car, does the bleutooth radio take over?Bob

Like any Bluetooth device once one is switched off you can switch the other on should you wish. (As long as the devices are listed in your phone of course) 😉

😀 I have a TOM TOM sat nav that is bluetooth and links to my phone, you can also transfer your phone book to it and then its all touch screen from there, when your phone gets a text that will also be displayed and you never get lost fantastic device and prices comming down.
make sure that you have a compatible mobile before you buy one though.

I’ve just gone back to normal headphones from bluetooth, battery doesn’t last long enough for me during the day, real pain when it cuts out halfway through a call.
