ParticipantI’ve got a Hotpoint “super silent” W/D, about 10 months old, which occasionally will attempt to spin with too much water remaining in the drum, resulting in a relatively small amount of water spilling out from the soap dispenser drawer.
As far as I can rememebr it has done this from new but, as I say, only occasionally … it’s not a repeatable problem.
Anyone know what I might be able to check myself before calling out the repair man? Is it just an overloading issue?
Many thanks.
Keith.

It could be a partial sump blockage. Unplug and leave the machine for AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES ❗ before you take the small lower back panel off. Have a look in the large black rubber hose you can see under the drum going from the drum to the pump. Blockages here can cause your problem. Be very careful not to get any water onto the motor or the wiring.
The small plastic ball should be in there, be sure to put it back in the sump cage.Jim.

Thanks, I’ll take a look. Why is it necessary to leave the machine for 5 minutes, things charged up inside there?

If it is a Super Silent WD860 it will have a 3 phase motor, the control module stores a hefty charge, be sure to keep your hands out until at least five minutes after unplugging.

A word of caution here, as your machine is covered by the manufacturers warranty, attempting any ‘self help’ examination by removing the back panel can invalidate the guarantee. Access to the sump hose is tricky and not without its dangers. 🙁

I think the manufacturers ought to check this fault out in all honesty. 😉
