ParticipantIt appears that the cooling network is faulty!
The lower third of the back wall is warm and, needless to say, causes the upper two thirds to slowly defrost.
Is this repairable or am i looking at replacing the combo?March 4, 2007 at 5:23 pm #206386Dales-Electronic

Hygena (but as you say Brandt Group manufacture – they own the Ocean tradename) A bit difficult to diagnose without looking at the beast. The f/f works on the principal of having cooling only in the freezer compartment and ducting cold air into the fridge when required. To allow a more educated response perhaps you could answer the following –
a. is the freezer temp OK
b. can you hear a fan running in the freezer?March 6, 2007 at 7:02 am #206387orion2104

yes the freezer compartment is fine and the fan runs when the thermostat is adjusted.

OK at this point we are looking at a diy attempt. For some reason the cold air is not being ducted up into the fridge area. Whilst there are various reasons for this to happen the most likely is a build up of ice. Switch off the appliance, place towels in the bottom and leave it with the door open for at least two days. Then switch it back on and see if this has sorted the problem out. If not you need an engineer. If this is needed, could I suggest you go to repairs@ (to the left) and select one from the list. Good luck.

When you mentioned ducted air I thought ‘now where does that come from?’…there is a sloping channel at the back of the fridge compartment with, what looks like, a hole (or it could have been a bung)…seeing as i didn’t think i had much to lose, i cleared there hole from what appeared to be food debris. The hole is now totally clear. I went out today and on return noted there is no water build up in the sloping channel, as before. The lower back wall is still warm though and I cannot detect a cool airflow from the freezer. I will check it doesn’t have a build up of ice and report back tomorrow.
