ParticipantA couple of weeks ago when my tumble dryer was on for about half an hour then all of a sudden the fuse for the sockets on the main fuse box shut off so after putting the fuse back on i switched the tumble dryer back on and it ran for 5 minutes then did the same thing so i left the tumble dryer for 2 days then tryed it again and it work normally until today when it shut the fuse off on the fuse box, so when i try to push the start button it just shuts the fuse off so does anybody no what the problem could be as i cannot afford to get someone to look at it for me.

You could have water spraying onto the heating elements. This is usually caused by the float chamber becoming gunged up or the valve into the water container sticking. You need to make sure that you clean the condenser itself at very regular intervals, a pressure hose in the back garden is the best way. Cleaning out a gunged up float chamber is not easy, access is very difficult requiring removal of the drum etc.
Try to avoid using until you have had it sorted, you may do further damage if you keep allowing it to trip out.

Thanks iadom for your reply.
I have removed the condenser and there was some fluff in between the fins but this is soaking wet and when i turned the condenser on it’s side it left a small puddle of water on the floor. What should i check next.

Not much else you can check without a strip down, the condenser should not be wet, though that confirms a possible gunged up float chamber due to lack of cleaning of condeser. You could remove the water container and check the small valve at the back of it, also shine a torch inside the hole that the water container slots into and see if the other part of the valve mechanism right at the back looks OK, very occasionally the valve can be broken, preventing the water from filling the container.
Unfortunately after that it is engineer time I’m afraid. 😥
Plug out first if you open it up.

You wouldn’t have a picture on where the float chamber is would you. And also a guide on how to remove the drum. As for a engineer i cannot afford one yet as i was laid off from work on friday.

Sorry to hear of your predicament, I hope things soon improve for you. 😥
No pictures as such, copyright issues as much as anything. The float chamber has a small black rubber bung fitted to it, you can see this sticking out at the back of the machine, at the bottom. Sometimes you can clear some gunge out with bung removed.
To fully access the float chamber is quite a difficult job, even for an experienced engineer. Top, sides, drum and several other bits & bobs need removing. If you really must have a go be very careful, the inner cabinet edges are razor sharp.

I removed the black rubber bung from the float chamber and a few drops of water came out and a little bit of fluff but when i looked down the pipe it looked clear so then i removed the top and side covers and noticed that on the float chamber there was about a 2mm gap between the base of the float chamber and the lid in one place but the rest is ok apart from when you try to lift the lid it seems to move easy so should the float chamber be sealed or can the lid be removed so it can be cleaned out. While cleaning all the dust out i noticed where the plastic covers are there is (not sure of the name) a impellor inside the casing and inside the impellor there is a plasic bag which i cannot get out so it looks like i will have to remove the drum but how do i do this and how do i remove the belt from the pulleys.

The plastic bag could be the source of your problem, we cannot walk you though step, by step strip down procedures for safety’s sake, yours or anyone else who may read this later. Try and fish it out using a wire coat hanger or similar. Float chamber may be OK, lid is normally sealed.
I have mentioned before that this is not a simple machine to strip down. I give this advice with the very best of intentions.

I finally worked out how to get the drum off 😀
I have now removed the float chamber lid and it’s about 1 cm of fluff in there so i hope that was the problem.March 22, 2007 at 1:35 pm #206706nobodyspecial

I have put the tumble dryer back together and then ran it for about an hour but noticed that there was water running down the back panel and it looks like it’s coming from (don’t no the name of but it’s a white casing and screwed to the lower back panel and then screwed to the motor then it fits into the float chamber) Should this part have a seal fitted to it as there wasn’t one when i took it off but where it fits by the impeller there was some sort of silicone but nowhere else so would i have to remove the part to seal it and if so what with.

I believe the condenser ducting does have a foam gasket around its edge where it screws onto the back panel? Silicone sealant will suffice in its absence though. 😉
