ParticipantMy Ariston K/LS61SUK dishwasher has failed to heat. Last week I repaired this by replacing the heater element (2.2kW replaced by a 2.1kW generic). Both presented ~2ohms resistance, which I thought odd. This
worked for about a week, but has now failed again. Wiring
looks in good shape. Should I try to replace the thermostat next? Or is there a more obvious problem I’m missing?Yes, I’m only checking the electrics with the unit unplugged. I only have a noddy multimeter, so can check wiring continuity, if not thermostat function.
Please can someone advise?
Thanks, Rob

If both your heaters are showing the same resistance (ie: continuity) then the problem is in the supply to the heater. If the thermostats are tested for continuity and found to be OK, then the door wiring (at the hinge) could be at fault.
That leaves just the timer. Burnt and intermittent switches inside dishwasher timers (especially during the heating phase) are common.
If you need a timer, try the parts service – click on the banner.Power off when testing – stay alive!! 😀

Thanks, Steve.
I haven’t burrowed into the thermostat or hinge area yet, but did look at the Timer / Control unit, based on responses from similar problems in the forum. This was a little stiff so I freed it up with WD40. The connectors all look in good shape and continuity appears as expected for actuating pumps and heaters. The switchgear for the heater was a little burnt, but no more than I’d expect after 10+ years of daily service.
I cleaned these up with very fine abrasive and reassembled.
Pity it still doesn’t work!
Next stop:
1. Thermostat(s)
2. hinge switches (or would this be the door latch switch – this appears to work correctly). Thanks for the advice. Will let you know. Rob

Thrown in the towel.
Thermostat checked out just fine – going open circuit when brass thread was immersed in hot water.
Door switch was also fine. Could find no trace of hinge activated switches.
Dug deeper into the mechanical timer and cleaned up all the contacts – all appeared to actuate just fine as the dial was moved ’round.
The timer motor may well be at fault – it doesn’t appear to have the ooomph to drive the cams.Any advice on a replacement?

Typical with Indesit Group stuff, you have a choice of two timers and no date code/serial number break.
One is an Eaton timer, which will have a label with “EC4328” printed on it by the motor. The other is a Crouzet timer, which appears not to have an identification label.
The Eaton timer is p/no C0004329; the Crouzet C00041132. Both are around the £80 mark.
Be sure that this is what you want, as it will not be a returnable item if it doesn’t solve your problem.
spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply this for you if you quote the appropriate part number.
