I assume its an Electrolux/Zanussi or AEG badge here, anyway sounds like the flimsy locking ring that holds the prog knob to the indicator has broke. Usual cause is too much turning pressure on the indicator or dirty indicator causing binding of the plastics. There is a knob assembly that you can get that has new knob, it’s cap, rubber rings for looks and modified locking ring that holds the indicator in 2 places as opposed to the original 1 and toothed adjuster.
Knob cap has to come off, then nut down the prog shaft off, then knob pulls off, followed by removing the indicator. Everything is visible then, clean as required, and replace parts.
