Can you please help? I’ve just moved into a furnished flat, complete with built-in Hotpoint washer dryer BWD12 (not my choice!).

I put a load of washing on for the first time last night on programme D (40 degree A wash, non-colourfast material). For what seemed like hours, the cycle seemed stuck, where it was just swilling the clothes around – the dial certainly hadn’t moved. I ended up having to power off for a while and then manually moving the programme dial to rinse (then power off again), then to spin (then power off again), then to stop, just so I could go to bed!

I can find no instruction manual with this machine, although I know that it’s new. I know this model doesn’t have a very good reputation for reliability, and I’m concerned that every time I want to wash clothes I’m going to have to go through this rigmarole – or is this normal, and I just got impatient?

    Please help! 🙂

Hi Trixie it sounds like the machine has a heating problem you really need to contact an engineer to have this checked out as it will wash forever if this is the case, you can find a local engineer on this site.

Ouch! I think I’ll need to have a word with the landlord, then, as the appliance is brand spanking new, and the fist time I used it was the first time it had ever been used.

Cheers for the help. It’s not me being impatient, then – although I wish it was!
