ParticipantWe have a Panasonic NN TS 22 M microwave, which has worked perfectly for a good few years. Yesterday however it gave up. It will now only ‘cook’ for about 4 seconds on any setting before switching itself off.
Whilst it is working the light is on & the turntable rotates. After about 4 seconds though, it all stops.
Any ideas on the fault & fixing it please?
Thanks
David

If your microwave has ‘Inverter’ written on the outer door, then the probable cause of fault will be the Inverter or the magnetron or both.If it is the Inverter then this will probably be uneconomic to repair, but the only real way to find out is to have an engineer to look at it(under no circumstances should you attempt repair yourself). You can try the repairs@ for a engineer in your area.

Thanks – yes – it does have ‘Inverter’ on the casing. ( What is the Inverter & the magnetron?)
To give me an idea – how uneconomic are we talking? What could the cost of repair & parts etc come to? Rough order of magnitude only of course.
It seems a shame to bin a microwave that to all intents & purposes only has one fault….or am I oversimplifying the situation?
Thanks again….

Hi guys
Im sorry but microwave repairs must be undertaken by a suitably qualified engineer with correct equipment.
The high voltages present even after appliance has been off for days will kill.
Im afraid that no further information can be given except to find an engineer. 😉Greg

Except for the fact that IIRC, an inverter will set you back about £140 and a magnetron about another £80 for a genuine panasonic, a bit less for a patterned spare (£50-60 ish)

Cheers guys I’m aware of the issues with capacitors. So won’t be touching it myself.
Thanks for the info on costs.
