ParticipantHi,
We have just discovered that our integrated Diplomat ADP8242 has been leaking. (Nicely ruined the flooring).
Although I have had the lower panel off and can see water accumulating in the bottom during the fill cycle I cannot see where it is coming from. Believe me, I have looked alot. An engineer is coming in the next couple of days.Anyway, my question is why didn’t the antiflood device work? It has a tube that goes to the main sump area which I don’t understand and also directly beneath the antiflood device there are two holes that allow the water to drain onto the floor, surely this would prevent the device from working!!
If I take the microswitch off the top of the drive I see a small spring but I cannot imagine this having enough force to activate the switch.
Can someone please explain?
Thanks

No polystyrene float under the switch?

Thanks for replying.
There is no polystyrene. It seems that the device is self contained and only has a mass that would be lifted if something came through the tube from the sump area.
I did some more reading and it suggested that this could be more of a pressure device should some of the various water channels become blocked.Regardless, i think we’ll be getting a bill from the engineer in the next few days.

Sounds like you have found the water level sensor not the antiflood device.

nope, it’s definately described as the antiflood device on the smeg website.
it’s like a plastic ring with spokes that connect to the central piece where the circular mass is. on top of all this sits a clipped on piece of plastic that holds a microswitch.

It definitely is an anti-flood device however, as you have correctly spotted, it simply registers by air pressure when the water level is too high in a particular chamber. In theory, if the water level in the tub is too high it will back up in this chamber and stop more water entering the machine by operating the micro switch which in turn signals the pcb.
In practice what usually happens is a blockage forms between the chamber and the main sump causing the incoming water to ‘back-up’ in the chamber and trip the microswitch.
Alternatively, the blockage prevents the water from ever getting into the chamber allowing your machine to completely overfill.
And yes, there is no polystyrene float fitted because the floor pan has drainage holes allowing the appliance to leak all over your floor…great design, not.
