On a farm so has had the usual gunk, shotgun pellets, straw etc in it. This time the filter was completely clear, all hoses are clear, eco ball OK. Looking into the pump with the filter out, the impellor runs smoothly and is very quiet. Fill with water and it makes all the right noises but not a drip is pumped out.
Have ordered a new pump body but am I missing something else?

Hi Jim
In one of the spouts off the drain pump, you may find a 5p or button which fits perfectly in the bore. It then proceeds to act like a flap. best way is drain down, remove the two hoses from top of pump and push your finger down to plop it into main pump housing area.Greg
PS – You have been missing something for years :snigger:

5p there evil !!
I have had many 5p jamed side ways acting as a flip valve blocking pumps & outlet hose.

I have checked every inch of the hoses. Removed the sump hose completely and even removed the plastic drain hose, nothing 😥

Missed that, you are of course correct, I have missed the pain and anguish that comes with supporting a c**p football team like Man United. 😛

I did suspect that, on machines with the hose coming out at ground level you can just lower the hose into a bowl and let gravity ‘prime’ the system, not as easy with machines with the hose coming out at the top though, didn’t fancy sucking on the outlet pipe, the last water had been in two weeks. 😯
Will see how it goes when I return. 8)

ParticipantHave you taken checked the drain hose fittings
at the top of the machine found a 5p stuck in one
the other week, another engineer had charged her for a new pump and would not come back.March 22, 2007 at 9:17 pm #208582admin
KeymasterIf you open detergent dispenser what do you see when pumps working? (strong water jet coming from surplus or not). If yes you should look for “other 5p” on external drain hose. If not dismantle interior hose who comes from pump to back plastic chamber and try again draining.
If also not have jet you should check if you still have filter-rubber in order to stop water to come back in filter part are from impelor chamber.March 23, 2007 at 7:31 am #208583roly16

Hhmm….nice shorts. I must get a pair of those for the next meeting in the summer.
Jim, Is it an Askoll pump? Are you sure the impeller is rotating and not just vibrating like they do sometimes?

Good point roly…. 😉
To be sure the pump is ok you need good vibrations. Now is it a whirring noise with a sucking sound? Or a purring noise with a chuckling sound? And does the vibrations just rattle the pump flap or does the dispenser drawer vibrate as well?
None of the above?…..Ah well, stick a new pump in then…. :martin:
