ParticipantHi
I have a Siemans fridge-freezer that has a few rust patches on the ‘Stainless Steel’ doors. What should I use to clean the rust off as I don’t want to scratch the surface.
Is this a common problem due to poor quality stainless steel?
Thanks

I’m not sure there is such a thing as poor quality stainless to be honest? It’s either is or it isn’t stainless and the best way to be sure is that if a ‘fridge magnet’ sticks to it, then it is not stainless but some other ferrous substance or even aluminium? 😉
This may be a useful read for you……

Martin
Some modern stainless steels do attract magnets.

Hi
Stainless steel if its any good should not attract magnets, only poor quality stainless will attract magnets.

Hi
I have seen brand new stainless steel doors etc with “rust marks” on them.
It turned out to be adhesive residue from the protective film after having been removed.
A quality stainless cleaner did the trick and oh yes some elbow grease aswell 😆Greg

Hi all
Baby oil leaves a greasy residue that attracts dust and hairs, the best ive found is Chromol which is what liebherr supply with a new appliance.
I import it direct from them in germany as the UK distribitors only sell it in 1tr bottles which would last 10yrs

Martin’s link takes you to some stuff that looks effective and affordable, but;
I’d be inclined to get a small child to draw an appropriate number/size of pictures and apply to the marked areas with fridge-magnets (if your stainless is a grade that a magnet’ll stick to) or some self-adhesive velcro (for easy substitution of topical pictures).
Happy child/parent, marks gone, 😀
