ParticipantI have noticed that in the manuals for both my Neff dishwasher and Bosch wahing machine their is a statement saying that they do not recommend the items being connected to any artificial water softening system.
I have a Twintech softner which has made such a fantastic difference 😀 in the house as I live in Bedfordshire and the water is VERY HARD but I am concerned as to why Bosch group products suggest this is not acceptable.
The performance of both machines has only increased since the water softener has been installed and the amount of detergent required is obviously dramatically less but am I potentially damaging the machines?
Can anyone explain why? I do add salt to the dishwasher but I have it on its lowest setting and only need to fill up the salt container very occasionally. As for the washing machine I have no idea why they are against water softeners?
Any ideas or help would be useful.
Many thanks

Basically the reason is that ‘external’ water softening systems cannot guarantee a suitable quality of water into the machine? It’s regarded by them as a ‘cop-out clause’ by them in case the machine could be affected by polluted water and thus affect their guarantee. 🙁
However a properly maintained domestic water softener is no problem to use through you dishwasher and cannot and will not cause any problems whatsoever. You can safely adjust the internal water softener regulator to ‘zero’ and have years of good service combining the two. 🙂
I run a water softener and dishwasher with no probs by the way, I also have it connected to a hot water supply too (but that’s another issue)… 8)

Excessively soft water can damage fine glassware.
The more ‘intelligent’ dishwashers can alter their rinse water quality, by bypassing the machine’s own water softener, and topping up with unsoftened water from the mains supply.
Using a ‘whole house’ softener defeats this glasscare remedy.
