Does anyone know the reason why my Hotpoint WD420P washer/dryer has become a washer only – does the dryer element go or is there some other possibility? Also any disassembly manuals out there. Thanks in advance.

Heater failure, safety stat tripped, fan motor failure/fan fallen off, condensing valve failure, computer failure all possibilities. Depending on serial number, there are three different conversion/repair kits for this machine………

Only way you’re going to get the actual answer is by testing with a meter. Power off, of course.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll try to meter the element, but don’t know the figure I’ll be looking for.

    Re: Hotpoint WD420P

I have a similar prob with my machine – approx. 6 years old now but prob a few days old.

1..Won’t heat up/dry on drying cycle even though it goes through its’ prolonged chugging cycle as any owner would know is “normal”.
2..I immediately suspected an element prob but when I tried a so-called “maintenance” program – doing an empty wash on 95 degrees with just Calgon it tripped the socket MCBs in my flat.

I then suspected a thermostat/current limiter prob but I would appreciate feedback on this.

    Thanks in advance.

A washer dryer has two heating elements , one for the wash and one for the tumble dry cycle.

The only way to find out why it tripped is to test all components with a megger or multimeter, with the mains plug removed of course.
