ParticipantSMEG 612 (approx 4 yrs old, always been dilligent about salt levels, not putting fat + lumps in it, filters cleaned regulary etc used approx daily)
Was making a lot of noise when draining for the last few weeks (enough to wake me up when it was running at night).
No blocked drains. etc.
Did a very stupid thing. Cleaning the kitchen, popped a bit of caustic soda down the sink to keep the drains clear in my usual manner, thought to myself ‘as I’ve not got a dishwasher cleaner in the cupboard, I’ll run some Caustic through the dishwasher.’
Poured in a bit of soda, followed it up with a couple of kettles of water.
Have been getting E6 codes since. Machine will start the cycle until it needs to drain. I’ve baled it out a few times, it will restart if I manually empty it from inside.
Will it be fixable, and would it be economic to do so? How many more years of life could I expect from it?
And yes, I know I deserve all those blond essex girl jokes. 😳
opinions appreciated,
thanks

Doesn’t sound too bad – you have probably blocked the pump or at worst burnt it out. What area are you located and nodoubt someone on repairs@ can give you a hand.

Problem solved… Dales… you were right… the pump was blocked…
the neighbours had a blocked drain that was backing up along the road as far as our house, however, it was draining away slowly. I had checked the drains, but must have done it when the rest of the street were out (and therefore, not seen them full).
Anyway, saw them overflowing on Friday. The chap at the end of the run is an OAP who gets them cleared free by the council, so the drain clearance rodded it all out (within an hour of callout – very efficient).
Ran the dishwasher empty a couple of times, no problem at all.
many thanks
regards
