Neff S5443 Dishwasher not washing lower basket properly

Hi all,

I’d had a Neff S5443 dishwasher (S5443X2GB/42) for about 4 years (from new in our new house) and it’s been fine until the last few weeks. It now doesn’t seem to wash plates etc. in the lower basket correctly. If we rinse everything off thoroughly and then wash in the dishwasher the lower items seem to come out spotty and not washed correctly.

We had a visit from a manufacturer engineer this morning and the engineer has diagnosed that the lower spray arm is not turning because water is not going to it. He said (and apologies if I’m using incorrect terminology here) that the motor on the water heater is open or the circuit is blocked. He couldn’t hear the motor at all. Also, it may have blown the triac on the module. he basically described it that the motor is stuck and therfore not rotating water from the top to bottom spray arms.

He quoted £237 to replace the heater unit only and £326 to replace the module and the heater unit. We decided to cut our losses, pay the £65 call out and buy a new dishwasher.

Subsequently, I spotted this forum that seemed full of useful information so I thought I’d post and see if anyone could pass any comment on the above. Does it sound reasonable and should we buy a new dishwasher or could we get it repaired cheaper do you think? Could I do it myself?
