ParticipantAny assistance with this appliance would be helpful.
It is a S20BRSS31-A/G
Service No:- 858615115011Fault is no live supply to the comp, this feed it would appear comes from the control pcb. I suspect that this pcb is faulty, is there any other fault that would cause the pcb not to send the feed even though the appliance is fully defrosted (poss a sensor?). The Whirlpool sios info advises that the pcb has 2 part numbers( 481244079126) I assume this changes to part no (481221778192). I have seen a post advising that you have to change the front and rear pcb’s together? Is this true?
Best regards

have you put a new board in? if you have and it still doesn’t come on, you will need a bi-metal stat on evaporater. part no -481232058132. if you put a new board in when defrosted it should start straight away. its the same if you find the machine full of frost. when you put the new board in and it starts straight away it means you need a bi-metal stat. hence not defrosting. hope this helps you. rob

Hmmm i dont see that part listed on Sios for this appliance, is that deffo the correct part no for this model. Oh and do you know if you have to change both pcb’s together? This appliance is fully defrosted, when it is switched on the alarm sounds, after about 40 seconds the heat exchanger fan starts, but no live to the comp. If i supply a live feed, comp starts and runs fine and appliance starts to cool. Is it possible that it is just the bimetal sensor that is faulty and not the pcb?
strange one!April 13, 2007 at 2:06 pm #210575robwash

no u need a new control board. sometimes the front board and back boards don’t communicate and will come up with a row of 8’s straight away or after about 5 mins with CF. i wouldn’t buy a front board as yet. put the back board in and see. if it doesn’t work, disconnect the front board and run as it will run its default setting (-18/+5c). You don’t need bi-metal as the fan runs. cheers rob

The model number would indicate the machine is fitted with the later electronics and you shouldn’t need the front board.
If you’ve got the serial number it’s easier to tell from that which electronics are fitted.
Unless there has been another major software change the machine should go into defrost mode when it’s first switched on. After this it will start the compressor fan shortly followed by the compressor.
Think I’ve still got the training manual for these machines 😕Brian
