I changed the brushes on this machine the other day – the reported fault was machine “banging” and now no spin. All seemed well after the brush change – they were definately gone and so I thought job done. Got a call from the customer a couple of days later saying it’s now spinning fine but at the end of the spin there is a loud bang. Went back yesterday and after giving it the once over the only thing of concern was that the suspension struts were a bit soft and not damping very well. The machine was 16 years old by the way. I put it on a rinse and spin with clothes in and it spun up top speed ok. I let the spin continue to the end and sure enough, just as I was about to put the lid back on, the drum came to an abrupt stop from top speed and scared the crap out of me! It seemed as though the motor had received a signal to reverse it. I’ve never seen this before. I tentatively checked for motor action again and it was ok. The customer has been back on the phone again this morning saying it’s doing it every time now. I advised him not to use it as this problem looked pretty destructive to me.
Now, has anybody seen this before? My thoughts are that it has to be either the timer or the module, but I have no idea which. Can any of you gentlemen(or ladies) shed any light on this?

    Cheers,

    Dave

Check for corrosion on PCB connections. I’ve had a problem like this on an old Miele with it doing very strange things. After several visits I found arcing (caused by dampness) shorting across tracks of edge connectors. It caused it to fill when it was spinning & also pulsed the pump during fill, also motor went into spin at wrong time, all was caused by dampness on circuit board. Worth a look.
