    Hi

    I have been volunteered by the wife to repair her friends tumble dryer,its a hotpoint TDC 32S condenser drier.PROBLEM it does not heat I,ve not seen the dryer yet,from searching around it seems the t-stat is a common fault is this true and is it easy to change.

    easy answer is yes and yes!
    probably will be the stat on the back
    MAKE SURE THE PLUG IS OUT, there are about a dozen screws around the back panel, remove and there are 2 themostats underneath, a close look should show that both have the metal discs slightly rounded outwards, the faulty one will be flat or rounded inwards, they MUST be replaced as a pair, you can buy them here at shop@,
    also check the wires to the stats are not burnt, when replacing try not to touch the disc side of the new stats

    Hi removed back plate found both stats, left hand one has a green dot.Voltage to these is only 28v ac is this correct.I think I did wrong here I pushed the green dot disk in and it stayed in,the right hand one pops in and out.I linked the green dot one out and still no heater operation.Please advise and thanks for your help.

    You have damaged the ‘one shot’ thermostat. you will need a pair of stats, part number 1701583 to repair, then you will need to find out the actual cause of fault. Do not under any circumstances press on the base of the green one. It is a safety stat and will not reset.

    PS. there is absolutely no need to live test. Simple continuity check will suffice. If there is no heat after bypassing the green spot then you could have a failure in the door surround stat, the control timer, the element itself etc.


    Might be time for the cavalry. 😉

    Cheers so in therory I can link out the green dot stat to further fault find.Cheers will let you know the results.

    There should not be a need to ‘link out’ the safety stat. To fault find, as I have already said, simple continuity tests are all that is required and a resistance test on the elements. If the element itself is OK and the stats were until you pressed them, then you need to be looking elsewhere. There is a stat in the door surround that does sometimes fail. After that the timer is the next possibility.
