Is there any guide to buying a microwave?

I just want to buy a simple microwave (not a microwave oven since I have an oven).

Which brand is good? Is there brand reputation for microwaves as washers?

I actually have an oven (with microwave) but this just gets too dirty on all things that can’t be cleaned (e.g. elements, etc)

    Panasonic are good if it’s just a free-standing one you’re after. 😉

If your buying panasonic, avoid one that has an inverter in it (it will normally say it on the door).

    Thanks for your help! 😀

How does Sharp compare to Panasonic?

I was looking at the Sharp R265TM and the Panasonic NNE273S.

This Panasonic doesn’t seem to have the inverter technology (which is good)…

I have a Panny NN-T551W, never blinked in over five years of use ( it has the Inverter system)

Sharp are easily just as good as the panasonic. One word of caution, if it has a Lcd display, they do not like being switched off.It causes the display to fail. Saying that I have a Panasonic with an inverter, and touch wood I have never had any problems, but I have repaired quite a few under g/tee and they are expensive to repair out of g/tee.
    Hope that helps!

    Thanks guys for your help!

Seems like I will go for a Panasonic (non-inverter) since the Sharp I am looking at has a LCD display

    Hi,

Just after the same answer to the question raised at the begining of this post but looking for a built in version not freestanding. After the same type just a microwave not combined.

Do you have any recommendations on make/model please.

    Thanks

    Hi q

Built in is a little tricky as they come in different disguises as seen here http://www.neff.co.uk/compact.html on the Neff site. Also the price will go sky high. Sharp and Panasonic still produce a freestanding combi microwave oven which you can add a built in kit (at a price). However it would still come out cheaper than a full blown integrated machine 😉
