ParticipantHave made 3 visits so far to the above trying to find a very annoying small leak. I am sure its down to over filling which is unusual on Bosch made machines as they are more prone to under fill. Have checked the water level on my own Bosch sgs444 and with no load the water level is at least 30mm below top of the round filter grip, The hotpoint one is about 10mm below. Have taken all the water fill components off and cleaned thoroughly, But am stumped as to know how to reduce the fill level as it seems to do a timed fill with the diaphragm operated switch only shutting of when full.

Hi Goose,
have you checked that the lower spray arm is working properly. If they stick or don’t turn freely they tend to spray water out through the door.

Hi Alanj
Thats the first thing I checked as I do come across that quite often. There is water in the base but only on the L/H side and only behind the motor, And not underneath it. The strange thing is if I put some kitchen towel under the centre of the machine about 9inches in, It get wet 😮 .

Could be leaks from heater box or seals. I once had a heater box with a hairline crack in it. See here.

A couple of things I’ve had in the past…..
Salt compartment retaining ring (the large ‘nut’ under the salt cap) sometimes comes loose and gives the impression of a heater box leak; and appears first on the left side. 😉 I had one that filled the base to raise the float in 1 fill cycle. As soon as the motor started, water poured into the base. Always check this ‘nut’ if the base is found to be full of water. Usually caused by the customer being brutal when unscrewing the cap. :rolls:
Next, the salt grain hole. Almost always found around the lip that the filter edge fits into. Hard to see at first; but can usually be found quite easily with a torch.Hope that helps,
Steve.
P.S. I’ve had a bottom wash rotor split along the seam – under pressure the water shot around the edge and base of the door. Watch for that!! 😉
