ParticipantHi,
we’ve just hit a problem with our Bosch Classixx 1400 Express ENR WF02866GB/07 FD – 8409605104
The problem is that it fails to spin properly. The wash cycle seems to complete, but the clothes are still sopping wet at the end. We thought it could be an unbalanced load, but re-distributing the clothes and running a spin cycle only without clothes won’t lead to full speed spin.
The cycle timer will show 12 mins remaining when the spin cycle is selected, will count down to 10 mins with three or four small movements of the drum in between but then jump to 1 min and finally 0 and unlock the door.
Could it be a faulty off balance sensor? Can this be replaced by me?
We have cleaned out the drain pump cover, there isn’t a lot of water left in the machine after a wash cycle either (we tried a 90 degree wash with no clothes but detergent) so I doubt it’s that/
I’ve not had the top off the machine yet either, so any tips for further fault finding if deemed useful would be welcomed!
Thanks in advance
Duncan
p.s. I checked, and we’ve not selected the rinse hold on the spin speed dial!!!

does the drum turn on wash if not it could be the motor brushes.
plug out before checking anything.

Thanks for the prompt response!
The drum does turn on wash, but will only ‘kick’ around a couple of times then wait for about 10 seconds before doing it again, in a very similar fashion to when it’s trying to spin in fact.
I’m afraid I don’t know what normal behaviour during the wash part of the cycle is!
Do you know where I can get the part number for the bushes? It might be worth replacing them anyway, the washer is just over 2 years old with prob 4 cycles a week during that time. How long do bushes normally last?

You can obtain the brushes here http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … ushes.html
I would expect the brushes to have lasted longer than that…try turning the drum slowly by hand and listening carefully. If you hear a regular ‘tick’ or a clicking noise the motor may be about to let go 🙁
First port of call would be to get the motor off and have a look at the brushes…if they are less than 10mm in length then they are definitely worn out.
Let us know how you get on, and don’t forget, plug out before doing anything :zap:

Thanks for the help so far, but I don’t think we’re done yet… 🙁
Well, I managed to get the motor off and inspect the brushes and they are about 2 inches long – so that’s not the problem!
However, I didn’t quite understand how to get the brushes out at first, and ended up dismantling the whole motor. It came apart fine but in re-assembling it, I broke the carbon collar that fits on the base of the rotor just next to the bearing. 😳
Well, a new motor is on order from Bosch (£115 delivered!!) so we’ll see if that solves the problem. Maybe the collar was already cracked and it actually fell apart when I was fiddling (or maybe I’m telling myself that to make me feel better!).
I don’t suppose anyone knows where I can get a replacement carbon collar for the motor from? Might be able to return the new motor if I can fix the old one.

Well the new motor arrived this morning (actually first delivered on Friday – quick work Bosch!) and fitted this evening. Hey presto working washer!!
Thinking how the washer ‘failed’ it seems to fit more and more that the annulus around the rotor was cracked before I took the motor apart. The motor was turning half a turn, then stopping. If the annulus magnet was cracked, the time the current switches its polarity on the second half of it’s turn it would stop. I think.
Thanks for suggesting turning the drum before dismantling, I could hear a very slight ticking – probably supports my theory above.
Anyway, time to find out who makes the motor and see if I can get a replacement magnet thing!
