ParticipantI have a remarkably similar fault as several people on this site! the fridge/freezer switches on and runs and cools to -20 freezer 3 fridge at some point the temp indicator on the freezer starts to flash and the cooling stops but the display still reads -20 and 3 degrees. the fridge is able to cool so compressor and condensor are effectively ruled outwhich lead me to conclude the offending fridge freezer seems to have a sensor fault, I carried out the onboard diagnosis routine (top two buttons simultaneously for 10 secs) but no segments of the temp leds illuminate, I have been researching these posts quite deeply and have come across conflicting conclusions, Firstly I have been told the thermal fuse, and cooler fan is faulty! This seems implausible as on “reboot” the fan at the rear of the unit spins (I assume this is the cooler fan) so I am reluctant to condemn this. There are 2 thermal fuses in the system, fuse F and fuse R both of these have continuity as this can be checked at connector 70(White plug) at main pcb on the brown wire via defrost heater, and defrost heater R white wire of the same plug, upon checking both are ok (unless they are resetting before I am able to test for o/c) my original thought was perhaps one of the sensors was faulty, exterior or ice switch? however my knowledge of this sensor type is minimal eg is it digital or analogue signal and what reading am I expecting if I test it? hence this post, any help would be appreciated, I am fairly confident and competant at indepth fault diagnosis, any helping samsung engineers out there willing to share knowledge? thanks in advance

HI IM USED TO MOST SAMSUNGS OF THIS MODEL TYPES-WHAT YOU,LL PROBABLY FIND IS THAT THIS IS WHEN IT GOES INTO DFROST MODE,(ROUGHLY EVERY 4 HRS) IT WILL STAY IN IT., IF THERES A PROB, UNLESS U KEEP UNPLUGGING, TO RESTART, -ITS MOST LIKELY/CHEAPLEY, YOUR DEFROST SENSOR, TRY REPLACING IT-USUALLY YELLOW,-IF NO JOY THEN MUCH MORE EXPENSIVELY, BUT VERY UNLIKELY -YOUR MAIN, CIRCUIT BOARD, BEST WISHES/LUCK., DAZ, D.CLARK REFRIGERATION.

Just to add to keep all readers safe, un plug appliance first before attempting any repair 😀

Hi All
The most likely culprit is the defrost sensor or defrost heater,The PCB is very unlikely to be faulty as they are very reliable.
Due to the fault you have it could be either the fridge section or freezer section that has got the fault.
Hold the top 2 buttons in together for 15 seconds till it stops flashing and tell me what you have displayed on the digits.

ParticipantThanks for advice Bryan, I have already tried top two button trick, but sadly no segments illuminate, It seems quite probable the suggestion from DAZ, defrost sensor faulting and staying in the defrost mode, however I am unaware of the method of test for these sensors. Are they N/O, N/C, PTC, NTC, several different options are available and all would give quite different outputs to a cpu. I assume these sensors are fed via a 5v common on plug CN30 via brown wire?(this is labelled Rdef and Fdef sensor on my diagram) but I am unsure of the location of these sensors, any help on what readings I should expect from these sensors and their location, BTW, feel free to ask for BMW help if any reqd lol, I seem to need a lot of help with fridges. I have an identical problem to you.
I too initially concluded that it must be the defrost sensor.
I obtained a repalcement and replaced faulty unit. There seems to be an additional fault with the deforst heater which is open circuit.
Did you fix yours and was this the problem with yours? -
