ParticipantGrill won’t heat. Taken element out to check glass tubes and their ok and it has a reading. Regulater seems ok as well. I’ve put my meter on various terminals and I get power coming out of it. Traced those wires back and one goes to the top oven stat one goes to a small pcb (purple)by the terminal block and another (blue) also goes to this pcb. Would it therefore be the PCB at fault ??
ANY IDEAS will help
Thanks Brett

Is there a selector switch attached to top oven control?
Most top oven selectors have a switch to break connection to grill if top oven is selected.
Have a look for bad connections there.April 24, 2007 at 3:23 pm #211585cab

some machines have a door switch so the grill will only work with the door in the correct position

Hi Seamy — Yes the top oven isn’t just a stat it does have switch at the front of it that some wires from the grill regulater do go to. So may that have failed maybe??
But the top oven stat was in the off position when I tried the grill so how could it have any bearing on the grill working or not?? I’m thinking that the 2 wires I had mains on were going to this pcb (called a trigger pcb) so surely that is the fault??
The customer is chasing an answer but I don’t want to make the wrong discision.
Thanks Brett

Does the grill/top oven selector switch have a half grill/full grill section on the knob? It has to be on that for the grill to work. Also check to see if someone has had the knobs off & put ’em back the wrong way round, it has happened to me just last week!

Hi — the grill and top oven are seperate units. The top oven has a range of temps but nothing else relating to the grill operation. The grill does have options both ways for half and full settings.
I did think that the top oven switch may have to be on for grill to work specially as some wires from grill go to top oven switch but it seems like they are indepenant of each other. So are you not sure about this trigger pcb as as before I’ve said that the only 2 wires from grill switch to have power are the ones going to that pcb ???????????
Thanks Brett

I did one of these recently that had a blown grill element, it had taken out the selector switch contact on “Top Oven Switch ” & hence grill wouldn’t work.
Basically theres a normally closed contact on the TOP OVEN selector switch, this prevents Top Oven & Grill being used together, so when you switch on Top Oven it breaks supply to Grill .
You can check for continuity using a test meter.
In off position of top oven, selector switch contact for grill should be closed circuit, if you understand that.If you feel brave you can link the two wires together on the selector switch to see if grill will work, but be sure they are the ones used for grill as some are used for cooling fan etc on this type of appliance.
