I have inherited my parents old Proline TDC7A dryer and already seen various things on here about them not heating (due to thermostats going) and plan to order a replacement thermostat kit for it.

The reason (I think) the thermostats have gone is the capacitor had also gone and so it was turned on for an unknown length of time without the drum and fans turning.

Now I had a 8uF capacitor spare in my tool box that is identical in spec (volts and that) apart from its 8uF whereas the one on the machine was a 7uF. Is this difference catastrophic? I’ve tried it on the machine and it works a dream just don’t want it bursting into flames : )

Finally, without testing there’s no other reason for it not heating is there? ie its MOST likely to be the thermostats? Just don’t want to change them only for it to be the heater itself.

all the new generation of merloni dryers have a 8uf cap on them, that’ll be fine

and yes, its more than likely the stats are at fault, and for some time now, the heater and stats have come as a complete unit

however, as it is unlikely to be caused by stat failure this time it is possible to reset the one shot stat ( the left one i think) and u do that by sticking a pin in the small hole on the back of the stat and ull hear a click

please ensure uve unplugged the machine

if you feel safer changing the stats, then do so, but im pretty sure on this occassion that just resetting it will suffice

    hope this helps

    You’re a star!!!!!!

All fixed and it’s not cost me a penny!

8uF capacitor installed and thermostat pin prick pressed – it popped as I pressed it.

Tested it just now and it gets toasty warm and starts fine every time.

Why isn’t this pin press mentioned on the other threads about Proline and equivalent models not heating?

It’s at least worth a try before those with a similar problem go out and spend money on new thermostats.

ah well, to be fair, generally the toc is there as protection for oveheating

now wot i gotta say to you and everybody, in the absence of no other fault, then both the stats MUST be changed

however your problem with the stat was more likely attributed to the fact that the motor wasnt running, and the toc clicked in to save any further damage, so in your case it worked

im glad this has helped you, but i must stress to others reading this post, that in the absence of another fault, both thermostats must be changed
    thanx
