ParticipantI have a Hotpoint DC27 Dishwasher.
When starting any program, once the on/off switch is depresses, the Pre-wash light illuminates (leftmost light), machine emits a single beep and the drain pump activates (removing any water in the bottom of the machine). Then after about 10 seconds, the Pre-wash light starts to flash, the machine emits another single beep and the machine continues to drain… and does nothing else.
I have changed the inlet solenoid valve.
I have cleaned the drain pump and the inlet valve filter.
We have plenty of water pressure.
The base has been flooded at some point but is now dry. The float switch in the base of the machine works but does not cut off the supply if i lift it during this ‘drain cycle’What can be wrong?
Does anyone know how to decode the error lights / beeps?April 25, 2007 at 9:29 pm #211802Penguin45

It thinks the base is flooded…….. You say it has been flooded before – the float is not distorted or resting on debris? The pump should cut off in the down position, not the up.
Please don’t stick your fingers in with the power on – bloody dangerous.

when you cleaned the pump did you disconnect the float switch? usually a 2 pin plug but the switch has 3 pins, can be fitted back wrong way
***as always, only check it with the plug out***April 26, 2007 at 5:27 am #211804NickTB

Thanks Guys – much appreciated.
I will try out these two.
Another suggestion was to disconnect the float switch (suggestion from a Hotpoint engineer)Also check the pressure switch by disconnecting it and blowing down it to check that it clicks and the connections on the terminals change.
I will let you know how I get on.
PS Am a qualified spark – so Mantra is…
Electricity bites!!!! – If you have your fingers in there – Turn it offApril 29, 2007 at 7:10 am #211805NickTB

I have now got the float switch working – i must have connected the wrong 2 pins when I checked it.
Symptoms now are….
On switching dishwasher on – wash light (2nd from left) is illuminated – Dw drains then fills with water – then wash light flashes and DW drains again and stops.I believe the circulating pump could be stuck and it has been suggested to give the back of the impellor a little flick with a screwdriver (with elec off of course) to see if it turns.
I have tested the pressure switch by blowing into it – so that is eliminated.
Any other suggestions?

Hi, could you give me some advice – how did you clean the drain pump on this dishwasher. Mine has stopped draining and is causing me problems – any other ideas?

Remove right hand side panel to reveal drain pump. It’s a twist fit after removing a locking screw. Do not lose the “O” ring.
Power off, first.

Thanks for that Penguin45- the impeller was free from blockages but the base was full of water! I’ve dried it out and fingers crossed it seems to be working now – any idea why that would have happened and how to avoid it? Is the dishwasher knackered?

The machine is actually an Indesit with a badge stuck on it. The water level control is extremely sensitive – flooding is a regular problem. If you are using multifunction tablets, I would stop as soon as possible – go back to powder and rinse-aid, or a low froth product like Fairy Bursts. It is good practice once it actually starts circulating not to open the door for any reason until it finishes.
It is possible that you do have a leak, but you would need to observe a while to see what happens.
Good luck with it,
