We have a DC07, trying to use the hose last night & little or no suction was coming through the hose. I put my hand over the end of the hose & sealed the holes & after about 2/3 seconds there was a ‘whooshing’ noise & the suction came back. Turned the machine off & tried again – same symptons.

I’ve stripped the machine down & taken off all the removeable parts without needing to unscrew anything – but there are no blockages, splits in the hose or dodgy seals.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this loss of suction ?

That’s the problem! 🙁 Terrible model of Dyson!

The cones ontop of the bin get blocked up, and that sounds like it could be your problem. You can’t access the cones to unblock them!

But, if you have a powerful enough jet-washer, you can blast water through the bin assy, and sometimes shift enought muck out. Bear in mind, if you do this, the bin will need to dry out for a least 24 hour, so you don’t suck water into the motor 👿

A design flaw is to blame. Later versions of DC07 were slightly modified, though the problem remains.

The central column does indeed become clogged with fine, fuzzy dust. I found that to empty the machine correctly, you have to batter the whole cyclone assembly (with trap-door closed), vertically onto a soft carpet, several times.

Then empty over a dustbin, and flick the trap-door release several times in succession. Repeat as necessary…

I would NOT put water near it, as this may make any dirt into a mud, which will cause more fine dirt and fluff to adhere!

If still under guarantee, Dyson may be willing to assist you.

Thanks Guys, we do have an extended warranty on this (& other callouts have solved previous problems) – but I didn’t want to call someone out if there was an easy solution.

I’ll see what can be done to clean it the cones out.

Don’t mess around with it then, just let them sort it! 😉
