Just come accross this “just out of guarantee” Hotpoint CDT00 condensor tumbledryer. The belt has heated up in one place and then snapped.

Can some kind person help me understand how to get the new belt on over the drum and motor?

With very great difficulty, it is one of those jobs that you need to allow plenty of time for your first attempt. At least one long thread on this belt change, you really need to try it and develop your own technique. I remove the inner drum, fit the belt to the motor pulley, slide the drum back under the belt and then you are left with the main problem of getting the belt back on the jockey pulley, using the old belt, a junior hacksaw handle, loosening the pulley mounting bolts are all variations on a theme.

This thread starts shows some special tools for earlier dryer belts, no special tools for the CTD00 range though. http://tinyurl.com/225f4g

That’s the bit I am not sure of, getting the belt around the pulley. It’s attatched at both ends with the fan housing at one and the motor at the other.

i normally take off pulley wheel (tensioner) then refit it when belt is in place but not the easiest of jobs.

I am missing something here. I meant how do I get the belt over the motor pulley, not the jockey wheel?

Thanks for taking the time to answer me.

    Alan,

you have to remove side of dryer, then remove fan housing cover, fan then comes off by removing spring clip, you will then be able to slide belt over shaft of motor to belt position.Replace in reverse order πŸ˜‰ .

Has it got a Jockey pulley? or is it a stretch belt?

If it’s a stretch belt, the motor can be slackened off, and spun round to fit the belt.

I’ve never done one but was talking to a friend who has.

    Disregard my last post above

It will have a J pulley.

If you remove the heater assy on the back of the dryer, and also remove the fan. You will see four screws that hold the motor. Before you undo those screws you should mark the motor and the housing (to make it easier to reassemble).

Remove the four screws and get a slip joint type pliers and swivel the motor anti clockwise. Slip on new belt and then swivel the motor back (with slip joint pliers until the marks align. Then refit the four screws.

That basically is how Hotpoint do it. But trying to describe it is a different kettle of fish lol
