Repairing a customer’s washing machine this afternoon and she’s chatting away telling me about having an energy regulator on her Stoves cooker replaced a few weeks back. It was out of guarantee but (stupidly IMO) she called out the manufacturer and she was given the choice of paying for the completed repair or buy a 1 year insurance policy for £149 to cover the initial repair and give an additional 1 year cover , which she opted for.
I told her if she gave me £149 to replace a regulator I would sleep with her cooker for a year :). Funny because she actually told me that in a strange way she was kind of hoping it would break down again to justify her decision.
Has she got this story slightly twisted or are some manufacturers offering this type of option ❓
