First post, so please excuse ignorance.

The above washing machine stopped spinning today, it was fine yesterday but just did not spin today. Everything else seems to be happening; water, timer etc.

I have cleaned out the filter and balanced the load to no avail.

Moving the drum manually reveals no ominous clicks or restrictions.

Does this mean that the motor has gone? Does it mean that the brushes are worn? Can either or both of these happen overnight or are there tell tale signs?

A reply would be much appreciated as the wife is beginning to whiff a bit.

Just unplugged it and turned it upside down to have a look at the motor.

It would appear that there may be an electrical problem. There is a black plug with 6 wires going into it; 2 white; 1 grey; 1 red; 1 green and 1 yellow. The yellow wire is detached from the plug and there is evidence of burning around the black housing.

First of all, could this be the problem and if so, is it fixable?

Can I get a new black housing/plug and rewire from there?

    Regards

    Ian

    Hi
Its not the end of the world, don’t panic. 😀
Easiest way as there is no spare for loom or motor plug is to individually spade the motor connectors. Making sure that every other is an insulated spade and make a note of wiring sequence beforehand.

Unplug appliance if you are to attempt yourself :plug:

Many thanks Gegsy. 10 minutes mucking about with the wiring and we are back spinning – much appreciated.

Why are the wiring looms always the first things to become obsolete, in manufacturers’ inventories?

Mainly because they’re irrelevant. Given that most loom faults are a single point failure, a competent engineer will repair it. Even as our poster has done; although turning the machine upside down is not good practice……
