I have a Hotpoint WD640P washer/dryer and i have had numerous callouts to it in the machine’s 2.5 year life. D&G have at last decided to replace the machine and left the old one for me to do with as i wish. The engineer left it with an unidentifiable electrical problem and not working at all. Out of curiousity my wife tried it and it seemed to work, except for the drum not spinning. After opening the top i found the drive belt sitting on top.

    My query:
How can i get the drive belt back on? I’ve struggled to use a screwdriver but to no avail. Should it be easy to do?

    Many thanks.

Plastic cable ties are the answer.
Looking down from the top put belt over the top of the pulley wheel and put a cable tie going around the belt through the gap in the pulley, might need two.
Now let half of the belt hang loose off the pulley wheel and put the other lower end around the motor shaft(having taken bottom rear panel off).
Open the door and turn the inner drum by hand so the pulley wheel takes the slack and keep turning it until the cable ties snap off resulting in the belt staying on.
Hope i’ve tried to make it sound clear enough it is a very simple procedure.

Please remember to unplug machine from wall socket before attempting any repair “safety first”.
