ParticipantHi All,
WE have a Smeg DWF66 dishwasher bout 4-5 years old. Last night noticed that it has a bit more water in it than usual when loading. Turned it on (timed to come on over night) and instead of the usual noises it just went ‘brrr’ for about a second (think it was the emptying pump) and stopped. It sounded like a little trickle of water was pumped out. It didn’t empty / fill / etc. No error messages showed so I went to bed (I was tired).
This morning it was still at the same timer time and nothing else had happened. I checked the forum for ideas but couldn’t find a solution. I sucked out all the gunk from the tube at the bottom of the machine (this sorted an E2 problem I had last year) and maked sure no hose was kinked but still no joy. Have tried turning power off then on but no luck. No water leaking out of the bottom of the machine so I presume the aquastop is OK. Not sure though.
We would be very grateful for any help sorting this. Thanks.

Drain pump blocked would be my thought – “strange noise” = foreign object in pump………
Power off if you’re going to pull it out.

Thanks Penguin45,
I’ll take a look tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.

Well I’ve taken out the drain pump (power off!) and disassembled it. No obvious problems. All clean. The pump seemed to turn OK (sort of springy between magnets, nothing grinding).
The drain hose seems fine as I have run lots of water through it.
Turned the bugger back on and still the same problem – Seems to empty for half a second and stop with no error code and just sits there.
Is there a chance it might be the aquastop and how can I check it isn’t?
Is there anything else I can check to sort this out?
Thanks!

Funny beasts, your Johnny drain pump. Have a read of this:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ge&pid=160Normal method of resetting an Aquastop type hose is to stop the water, slip the hose from the tap to depressurise everything, give it a couple of minutes, then re-connect and see what happens.
Failing that, I’d suspect some sort of computer problem……….

Thanks again Penguin45 for the advice and info,
The drain pump looks fine (to an untrained eye) so I’ll try the aquastop next. BTW how would I tell if the pump’s knackered?
Wish me good luck as I don’t want to think how much a computer prob will cost me …….. 😥

Hi,
OK so I turned off the power and disconnected the aquastop for 30 mins and connected it all back up but the d/w still just buzzes for 0.5 sec and then stops. I remember when it was working properly that there was a small ‘clunk’ when I turned the ‘on’ knob to on. It doesn’t do that now. Any ideas if this is relevant?
Anything else I can try before calling in an expert?
Thanks.

Out of the obvious ideas, I’m afraid. Use the link below to find a UKW engineer in your area.
Let us know how it works out,

Sounds like it could be the dispenser coil has gone down. Sounds funny i know but a common failure on those machines.
By the way i cover Haverhill, call 01279 658767 if you want to make a booking.May 25, 2007 at 9:16 pm #213498Nichothy

Hi there,
Well I got a UKW recommended engineer out and it turns out there was something wrong with the soap dispenser. I don’t know what was wrong with it as I was at work at the time but ‘dispenser coil’ seems the likely culprit. Why this would cause said problem I don’t know. Anyone know why?
So I’m the happy owner of a new soap dispenser and working dishwasher.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

Faulty coil generates electrical noise and corrupts the programming on the computer. If you’re really unlucky, it will wipe the computer, and a new one has to be fitted at humungous expense.
