    Hi
I have an old Electra WD1100A washer/dryer which has worked without any major faults for the last 15 years!

Recently, it has started to get really noisy on spin cycle. I have removed the top and rear panels and the fault is that the front concrete weight is loose. the concrete weight is bolted to 3 ‘L’ shaped brackets, which are spot welded to the outside of the drum – two of these brackets are cracked where they have been bent at 90 degrees. I have welding skills and access to welding equipment, the cracked brackets are accessible without having to dismantle the machine. Is it worth welding the brackets or am I just wasting my time trying? Thanks in advance, Neil

If they’re only cracked rather than corroded through, I can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t weld them up. Beware of the enamel coating though, it explodes with extreme heat…….

Thanks for the swift reply. I shall give it a go tomorrow evening….I don’t think I have anything to loose on such an old machine …sometimes its nice to repair something that you’ve mentally written off. Your comment on the explosive qualities of hot enamel are noted!
    Many thanks,Neil
