ParticipantHi there,
My Hoover Maxi 6, TV20 has decided not to heat up any more. I whipped the back cover off for a look around the heater element and on the same assy are 2 components with wires attached, i am assuming that 1 is thermostat and the other a thermal overload?
Is there any way i can test to see if my problem lies with either of these components?
Cheers
Tony

is the filter light on?
cos if it is, its the thermal overload, which, contrary to other posts, means the thermostat has failed
complete heater unit, with both on would be recommended
and do unplug it, theyre live permanantly and it does get quite nasty if u forget to unplug!!
hope this helps

Hi, if the light is external then it does not apply as there is only 1 light on the dryer which is the “on” light.

Both devices should be “normally closed” when split from the circuit and the test meter applied. If one is “open circuit”, the heater assembly must be replaced as a whole.
You’ll find it here:
http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … cts_id=292Additionally, check for blockages, crushed vent hoses, missing weather cpwls and don’t open the door with the heat on.

Penguin45.Hi,
Thanks for the info, can you explain why the whole module must be replaced and not just the failed component? The picture does not look like the heater element in my machine, maybe just a bad angle or picture?
Also how can I not open the door with the heat on? if the dryer is running and i need to open the door, what should be the correct procedure?
Regards
Tony

I checked the thermostat and when out of circuit it was open, it is an ELTH Type 261, could i just replace this?

Hi
Opening the door while TD heater is on causes thermal fuse to blow, this is because when the fan stops and with no air is being blown over the heater the air above the heater is hotter than normal, so thermal fuse blows. If you need to open the door before machine finnishes you should set it to the cool down period for 5mins . Opening the door before cool down is the most common reason for thermal fuses to blow. The best way is not to select too long a drying time in the first place.

Thanks for letting me know washman..
I have opened up the thermistat and found that one side of the bimetalic strip is broken, so this is obviously the problem. I am having no joy at all locating a new thermistat, any suggestions??
Cheers

Hi
Heater assembly comes complete , this is the only way as Penguin45 says.
That way you get any updated parts.
Hoover do not supply individual items for the heater assembly. You’ll find it here:

Hi Washman,
I did look at the heater assy after penguin45 suggested it but the image shown (if the correct image) is not the same as the heater assy in my dryer, in the picture you can see the thermistat but my assy has another component also mounted through the panel next to the thermostat.
