ParticipantHI,
I have a 2 year old Hoover Frost Free Fridge Freezer HCA 391 FFK.
It has the most horrendous ice build up at the back of the fridge compartment, which has taken a while to build up. After a year, I defrosted the fridge compartment last november, and since then the ice has once again built up to a huge size – the width of the fridge!
I have photo evidence of this but don’t know how to attach these to the message.
As this unit is out of warrantly I would have to pay £100 to have an engineer see the unit, and whatever other repair costs on top of this. The fridge works fine but what on earth is causing this massive ice build up and what can I do? this must be a real drain on the efficiancy of th unit surely?
Yours hopefully,
Lindsey

Hi Lindsay,
At that age I’d go back to the retailer and ask them what they’re going to do about it. So long as it’s not Currys, Comet, Argos etc. then usually there’s something that can be done.
It could be a simple thermistor or stat failure, possibly a PCB failure, it could be a partial blockage and it could even be a premature insulation failure, the trouble is without knowing what the problem is it’s really hard to advise much further.
I’m not familiar with that particular machine though so perhaps someone else may be able to offer pointers.

Participantwell, what can i say
2 choices…
fit the modified pcb and hope it works
or its a system problem
hoover, when u ask them , tell you to turn it right down.. good answer, and it works, just your foods not cold!
those machines were a pain, its ever since they changed the pipe work to freeze bottom to top, instead of top to bottom
hope this helps

HI Kwatt and Helo,
Thanks for your words of advice. Actually, I have had an ongoing thing with this particular model of fridge freezer. In fact this is my second unit as I bought my original unit from Comet in 2003, which actually died just after the 2 year warrantly after several problems and many call outs from Hoover engineers and hours on the phone, so I actually got this current unit as a replacement from Hoover.
I spent so long writing letters of complaints about the useless thing and how much money I had spent trying to get it fixed, etc etc, that they eventually caved in and replaced the thing. Only the replacement has turned out to be fautly too. How angry I am I can not express :angry4: . Hoover refuse to help out , since again the unit is out of warranty and
Comet are totaly useless, so I have resigned myself to the fact that I will have to get this problem fixed myself, no doubt at significant expense. I am not however prepared to pay hoover to fix the thing and so wanted to use a local, reputable engineer instead.Does anyone know if this will be an expensive problem to fix ❓
Thanks guys!
Lindsey

Participantahem….
i work for comet.. we aint useless… we do the best we can, with what the manufacturers give us to work with
a system problem would be pricey, a pcb not quite as much, depends on the engineer i suppose.
hope this helps
