ParticipantRecently (and getting more frequent) my dishwashers not been pumping. It’ll complete the cycle, but dirty water’s left in the bottom of the machine (say 2-3″ of water). A couple of times now I’ve taken off the left hand side panel and cleaned out the large plastic chamber through which both the fill and drain water travels. It may be coincidental but after I’ve done this it then drains. Does this machine have an independant drain pump, or is it the wash motor in reverse? If it has a drain pump, how do I access it?
If it’s the motor in reverse, is my problem likely to be a motor, or an associted part (switch, ect..)?I know a little about whitegood mechanics, I worked as an Engineer for Hotpoint 20 years ago, but we’ve moved on since twin tubs and spin dryers!!
Hellllllllllppppppppppp, please.

these d/w have a seperate drain pump. if you unplug the appliance and place it on its side, take off the bottom panel and you will see the pump. drain off appliance to avoid electrics getting wet and causing thurther problems 1st.

This is a Bosch produced machine. You can access the drain pump impellor from inside the tub, under the filter at around 8 o’clock you will see a small ‘L’ shaped cover secured by a single torx screw, remove this to gain access to the pump impellor and the ‘non return’, rubber flap valve. You cannot gain access to these machines from underneath, they have a sealed plastic base. To access the drain pump requires removal of outer door panel, large plastic lower front kickstrip/panel and a metal backplate behind the kickstrip. You then need to pull out the clear corrugated hose to gain very limited access to the drain pump ( clean out that hose whilst you have it out). The pump is actually quite reliable on these machines.
All with the mains plug removed of course. 😉
PS. If you do gain access to the pump impellor from inside the cabinet, look out for any small pieces of glass before you poke your fingers in there.

Participantthanks for that jim, cleaned out the impeller didnt seem to be much in there, we will see, running at the moment! I can drain the water by turning dial to end of rinse cycle, there was a slight kink in output hose which I have rectified, is the pump controlled by a sensor/level swich or by a timer?
Thanks tom

Drain pump is timer controlled when machine is operating normally.
