    What is the purpose of the metal box attached to the fan motor housing on the new modified covers with aluminium defrost drain heat transfer strip?

    Hi simon

    The idea of the sheild is to try and stop the possibility of ice build up over the wiring connections thus reducing the posibillity of tripping out ect.I have had one that caused a short as the wire was trapped between the sheild and cabinet so i removed it.

    Hi Simon

    If its on a new one then leave it but make sure the wirings tucked away.If it hasnt then dont transfer it from the old one.
