I wonder if you Whirlpool Whiz Kids can comment on this problem I came across today please?
The Fan Unit needed replacing as it was spinning freely on the motor shaft (very common problem). I had no probs in accessing the motor, taking the old fan off and thumping the new one on the shaft. Easy to remount the motor/fan assembly and all set to pop the top housing back on. 😕
The trouble I encountered was that whilst I yanked the cover off from the old broken unit, I could not get the top cover back over the new front fan? The space was impossibly limited, the space between the front rubber gasket and fan did not allow enough to slip the cover over because of the shaped ducting that goes around the fan air intake. 🙁
In the end I had to cut away part of the plastic curved air intake off the top cowling sufficient to clear the fan to then slip it neatly over and into position 😯
This cannot be right? But yet I fail to see how else the cover can be put back? Using total ignorance and force would only damage the new fan and that would bring me back to square 1, so I opted for the ‘cut a bit off’ method? :rolls:
The dryer now works a treat but I would love to know of a better solution, is there one I wonder?

Did you release the front of the machine? Normally have to release the front panel to get the ducting back on.

Can be a bit tricky but goes on easier if you cut off the two lugs on the front end of the fan housing.
Never had to loosen the front cover though.Steve

No I didn’t Brian, in fact I couldn’t figure out how to do that without taking the whole machine to pieces?

Yes I did cut off the lugs first of all but still couldn’t get that curved lip around the darn fan. So I trimmed about 5mm off the lip to slot it over the fan, which worked fine but I figured there must be an easier way? Taking the front ducting off seemed the only way but looked a sod of a job to faf with just to slot the top cover back on the motor? 😕
