Hi there, I found this link through another site, netmums 😀

We’re about to move house and will be buying some appliances. We currently have the entry level Bosch washing machine (which now I find may not be German!) which is one year old and a three year old Candy frost-free fridge freezer, also a gas cooker made by Cannon, also three years old. We are leaving all these appliances for our new buyer. Our seller isn’t being as generous so we need:

Washing Machine – there are three of us and we wash alot as we always have baby related muck everywhere 😯 I mostly wash our things at 30 or 40 and our son’s at 40 or 60. We’ll have a washing line outside in a very sunny garden and also a dryer. I’m not totally satisfied with the Bosch as the softner section is always getting clogged up and I don’t want to have to clean the thing every time I use the machine. Also I find the touch sensitive start button really annoying, I’d like a press-in knob thingy. Also, we had another Bosch which we left at my fiance’s when he sold his place :rolls: This was better and also had an display that said how long was left on the wash. I’d like that again. Not fussed on a Bosch again, just want a good reliable machine. Probably wouldn’t go for the cheapest one of a good name again, but don’t want to pay loads of money.

Fridge-Freezer – We had a look yesterday and many of them seemed to have very narrow freezer shelves, we would want wide ones, wide enough to fit say a frozen pizza box in. We make and freeze quite alot of food so a large freezer section is essential. Also in the fridge section I’d prefer shelves instead of alot of bottle holders I’ve seen. Something with shelves that come out easily and go back in again (my Candy is a bit of a nightmare to get the shelves back in) for cleaning. Should we go frost-free? I’ve been pleased not having to defrost the Candy, but I find the fridge part begins to ice-up and I end up with frozen fridge food 👿 We like the silver colours that are out, but would have white if it meant quality. We don’t want one of those double-door american looking things.

Cooker – Ideally I’d like a dual-fuel fan assisted but have no idea on what’s good. My cooker has been OK, but I’d prefer not to have a gas oven again. Love the gas hob.

    Also thinking about a dishwasher…

    Thanks, I’ve asked alot I know 🙂

    Hi

Bosch are still the best machines out there at the mo in the under £400 price bracket. The Bosch you currently have is probably their Tactile machine something like the WAA24260 which is a budget appliance down specified and is not usually in their catalogue. To tick most of your`e boxes the WAE28465. To keep any of the modern washing machines clean from gunking up, a once a month maintenance wash is the answer. As far as soap boxes are concerned there a good article here. If you want to go the extra mile then the Miele are worth a look at, for instance the W520 at around the £500 mark has a free 5 year warranty until the end of July. Others further up the range have a whopping ten year cover.

As far as the fridge freezer is concerned look at the ones with the “Big boxes ” again Bosh has about the biggest in itheir KGN34V00GB. Another way for large capacity users would be to have a seperate fridge and freezer if space allows. Both Hotpoint and Bosch produce appliances which will stand side by side and you can reverse the door hinge on one to give that American look.

Dual fuel cookers,Cannon, Zanussi or the Belling ranges seem about the best at the mo.

Miele are good for washing machines especially their Prestige Plus machine, which as don said come with a 5 year warranty, they’re well known for their reliability, so i’d also suggest the G977 dishwasher and the KD1450 fridge freezer. As for your oven, Cannon, Belling and Stoves are still reliable brands for ovens.

Thanks 🙂 It seems Bosch machines all have that annoying start button so we won’t be getting one of those. Maybe a Miele then, although wasn’t planning on spending that much.

We did see a Miele FF in Currys too that we liked.

As for cookers, this Canon has been good so they’ll probably get my return business 🙂

All the Miele washers have that nice in / out on off switch. The W520 base machine is a good all rounder, however for best care of fabric the honeycomb drum models are worth considering these start with the W1714 these have a 6kg load as opposed to the 5kg of on the W520.

OK in the end we didn’t go for the Bosch, or the Miele. I started wanting a Zanussi, but couldn’t find all the things I wanted in one machine (I didn’t know I was soooo choosy). Anyway, things got desperate so we plumped for the AEG L62810.

Fridge freezers were also nighmary so we have ended up going for a Hotpoint FF187E

Keeping my fingers crossed that they are both OK :conf:
