ParticipantHave fitted a genuine hotpoint pump to this toploader, a couple of days ago. When fitting it noticed that the “pulley” on the pump (where the flexible drive fits on) was plastic. More cost cutting I thought, it’s been aluminium for all the years I have been repairing appliances.
Anyway, today after the customer had finished one load of washing, and started another, the machine refused to pump out.On my way back to the job I was thinking what could be wrong, and I thought bet it is the plastic pulley, sure enough, the flexible drive had come off the pump pulley.
Thinking it might be too shiny/smooth to grip the flexible drive, I roughened the pulley with sandpaper, and fitted a slightly tighter corbin clip.
Further thoughts on the way back. Have I been sold a pattern pump in a Hotpoint box ?
Has anyone bought a genuine pump very recently, and what was the pulley made of.
Pump was bought from a major sopplier of spare parts.Any info appreciated

I purchased a Hotpoint top load pump p/n 151123 from connect last month. The pulley was black plastic, and when I fitted it I kept having the feeling that it was a pattern part, although it was in a genuine box with the p/n on it. Probably cost cutting by Hotpoint? So far I have had no call back.

Thanks for your thoughts Graham.
The picture of the genuine pump on connect, shows an aluminium pulley. The picture of the pattern pump, well the pulley is not easily seen as it is in shadow, HmmMalc

IIRC they are all plastic now and have been for a while.

The Indecent Company have been using pattern Hotpoint T/L pumps in gen boxes for well over 18 months. I always fit a new flex drive with these pumps and also tighten the screws, I have had one or two leaking, even had to spilt one open and debhor it to stop it leaking. Sadly calls to these machines are vanishing fast. 😥

I fitted a non geniune Hotpoint top loader pump from qualtex just the other day, it had an aluminium pulley £8.00 + vat i think.

If you get one with a plastic pulley, get rid of the spring clip and fit a clamp band.

Chris.
Make sure you do not use a jubilee clip, the weight of the screw part of the clip is sufficient to cause bearing damage to the pump due to excessive centrifugal force caused by a jubilee clip.

There is a paper insert in the box that says not to use jubilee clips.
Thanks for all the replies.

I have used jubilee clips with great success….the secret is to use two of them with the screws opposing each other 😉

I would never fit jublee clips to these pumps, always use the correct clips and a new flex drive, but then what do I know. 😉 😀

Nice skinny little automotive hose clips, Jim; not Jubilees.
